A neighborhood karaoke bar with deep University Heights roots, Thursday trivia and a 20-year Sunday BBQ tradition.

Cheers Bar has been a University Heights gathering place since 1983, in an Adams Avenue building dating back to about 1913, when it served as a hardware and general store for trolley engineers and passengers. Owned by the Richardson family, University Heights residents across three generations, Cheers is rooted in the neighborhood's diversity and camaraderie. The bar still displays the original neon sign from Diablos, a gay dance club on El Cajon Boulevard in the 1970s. With karaoke Monday and Wednesday nights, Thursday trivia hosted by Estevan (arrive around 8 PM; games begin about 8:30 PM) and wallet-friendly drinks, a pool table, jukebox, patio and friendly atmosphere, Cheers carries on its 'Open Hearts and Open Minds' spirit. Every Sunday, its long-running customer appreciation BBQ brings together the 'Cheers Family' with burgers, hot dogs and sides included with a drink purchase.
